Christmas Toy Appeal Wish List
All toys must be brand new. For infection control reasons we cannot accept second hand toys or used books. Other items that we cannot accept include;
• Cuddly toys or material based items
• Small toys that could be a choking hazard
• Homemade toys
• Large bulky toys
We would appreciate it if you didn’t wrap the toys as all items must be checked before being given to patients. Unfortunately we cannot facilitate donors in delivering gifts directly to patients.
TOYS
• Small world toys e.g. Cars, dolls e.g. Barbie and Little People, action figures, animals are a priority. (Mini figurines, mini cars).
• Action figures, farms, garages, houses, construction blocks, LEGO
• Larger trucks, cars, trikes, tractors
• LEGO sets for boys and girls (age 4-11yrs)
• Duplo LEGO for younger children
• Kitchens and tea sets
• Shopping – lists, items
• Items for kitchens like play pots and pans, cutlery etc. / play food / kettle / toaster etc.
• LOL dolls, LOL surprises
• Dolls and prams
• Doctor playsets (very useful for Play Dept. preparing children for procedures)
• CD players, nursery rhymes / lullaby CDs, interactive story books, disco balls, musical toys & musical rattles (all of these can be used for children with special needs, either in their room or in the sensory room)
• Footballs and soft footballs for the children to kick around in the gardens
• Play equipment for the gardens e.g. slides, Little Tikes Coupe cars, soccer goals, playhouses, swing ball, basketball hoop and basketball
• STEM / Robotics kits (for ages 10-14)
• Activity books, mindfulness colouring books, Uno cards
GIFT CARD / VOUCHERS
Useful to have €10 gift vouchers for Eason’s, Smyths Toy Store, Penney’s – they are suitable for all ages allowing children to purchase what they like.
ARTS / CRAFTS
• Arts and craft sets
• Orchard games
• Play Doh (small tubs), Play Doh rolling pins and cutters
• Colouring pencils and markers
• Sets from Mr. Price of cardboard cut-outs / people / animals on sticks to paint
• Crayons and colouring books (used throughout the year)
• Paint (washable in litre bottles) & paint brushes
• Annuals (books)
• Arts / Craft sets (Card making, crepe paper, coloured card, glue sticks)
• Handbag / T-shirt making sets
• Stickers!! Sticker books – great for giving out at clinics and also to use in play
• Hama Beads (available from shops such as Nimble Fingers and Smyths)
• Mosaic making sets
• Pottery (e.g. Giddy studios in Dundrum) - used throughout the year
The hospital always needs items for both babies and teenagers:
BABY TOYS
• Baby toys that light up and play music e.g. VTech and Fisher Price toys (brands that have passed the safety standards)
• Cot mobiles, small hand held rattles
• Music CD’s for babies, nursery rhymes and pop music
• Baby mirrors that can go on the sides of cots and portable CD players
• Soft relaxing music CD’s for babies
• Packets of baby loops / rings that link together for small baby hands
• Baby clothes e.g. Babygro sets, bibs, blankets – ideal for newborn / premature babies, where toys may not be suitable
• Push button baby toys
• Infant and toddler toys such as Fisher Price or any light up / musical toys
SENSORY TOYS
• Tactile squishy items - hedgehog balls, spiky balls, puffer ball, glitter wands, liquid timers
• Fascination spinner, Bog Eyed Buggly, Rain Stick, room light projectors / disco lights (you can mainly get most of these in good discount stores, online and in Smyths or sensory toy stores)
• Portable DVD players (can be used for DVD’s and music too)
• Bath toys (must be possible to clean them – wipeable and cleanable books and ducks / boats / balls and other bath toys)
• Distract toys - Interactive games like V-Tech toys / musical toys / singing / musical books
• Shape sorters and baby rattles and toys
COSTUMES / PYJAMAS
• Dress up outfits – fairy, fireman etc.
• Sets of pyjamas / slippers – useful as presents or if a child / teenager has to stay overnight unexpectedly
TEENAGERS
• Gift Vouchers (e.g. One4All, Easons, GameStop) are very useful for older patients for Christmas and patient birthdays etc. e.g. €5, €10 vouchers
• PlayStation PSP, 3,4 games / consoles, Xbox 360 games, Wii games, PSP games (spare / extra X-Box 360 and PlayStation controllers
• Portable DVD players
• DVD’s – especially age 12 plus
• iPads
• Art and craft items with a special emphasis on adolescent art and crafts
• Gift sets (e.g. toiletry sets, perfume / aftershave sets), pyjamas / loungewear sets
GAMES
• Board games – Connect 4, Guess Who, Snakes & Ladders, Dobble, Travel Games etc.
• Puzzles & Jigsaws, Peg Jigsaws
• Craft kits like sewing, beads, bracelet making, t-shirt printing, clay modelling etc.
• Selection of DVDs for children up to 12 years
