30 Runs of Christmas Fundraiser
Congratulations to Aoife Corcoran, whose fundraiser for St. John’s Ward at CHI at Crumlin was a fantastic success. Aoife raised a total of €10,600 while completing her 30 Runs of Christmas fundraiser. Aoife did her final run on December 11th, supporting National Christmas Jumper Day by wearing her Christmas Jumper.
Aoife is a 3rd year Physiotherapy student, earlier this year she was on clinical placement in the Haematology and Oncology department in CHI at Crumlin.
“Many of the children that I worked with on St. John’s ward spend months in hospital, some have spent the majority of their lives in hospital and are often going through gruelling treatments. However, while these children are going through one of the worst experiences imaginable, they still manage to be resilient, courageous and keep smiling.”
“The bravery and resilience of the children and their parents during the toughest of times, and the way that they just get on with it is something that will never leave me. When I finished the 5 week placement I didn’t feel that I could just leave that chapter behind and so I decided to do 6 week fundraiser for St. John’s ward, 30 Runs of Christmas.”
“The challenge was to run 150km in 6 weeks, 5k a day 5 days a week. I wanted to do something that wouldn’t be easy and while I do other sports, I am not a runner. I did find it tough especially on the darker nights. I have been blown away by the support and generosity of people, especially in the year that we have had. I feel that people were actually even more generous than ever.”
“I am delighted that it went so well and am very grateful for all the support that I received.” Aoife Corcoran
The funds raised by Aoife will go towards the essential and life-saving work happening at CHI at Crumlin every day.
