St. John's Ward Renovation
We have renovated our cancer ward. It is now a positive place, a healing place.
Our patients and their families are benefiting in such a practical way from your support. Phase 1 saw the delivery of a new spacious state-of-the-art 4 bedded Bone Marrow Transplant Unit complete with en-suites and room facilities for parents as well as 7 new single rooms. All have room in facilities for parents/guardians.
This is an incredible achievement. There is still an air of incredulity in the hospital. Private rooms finally with private bathrooms, a world away from what our patients and their families only recently had to endure. The difference that these major developments are already making to children and families facing a devastating diagnosis is immeasurable.
Phase 2 saw the delivery of the following;
- New play zone
- Redesign school room
- Replacement of public toilet
- Redesign medication/treatment room
- Redesign drop-in area
- Conversion of existing staff base to meeting/conference facilities, central station for nursing
- Upgrade of corridor
- The inclusion of natural light
The refurbishment of St John’s has brought this place to life. It has let the light in, in more ways than one. The place has been transformed for children and their parents.
